Welcome, to 1 West Waverley Scout Troop, and as the saying goes "1st West is Best", well at least we try our best.
I've been a Scout Leader here for 16 years and I've also been a member in all sections, from Cubs to Rovers.

1st West Scouts are encouraged to try something new, to go out and try anything they haven't done before.
Outbound is our quiet moto, with the scouts always getting the opportunity to try very different activities then they
would normally be used to. Some of the activities we do every 4 years and some we do every year** :

Rock Climbing **
Rollerama **
Ice Blocking **
Ice Skating **
Tennis
Surf School
Scuba Diving
Hiking **
Stradbroke Cup **
Jamboree's
Cohen Cup **
District Bike Hikes **
District End of Year Camps **
Local Wave Pool **
Fencing
Community Visits (i.e. Police, Fire, SES, Ambulance, etc.) **
Horse Riding
Archery
Gangshow
Orienteering **
and many more......

With each term, each Patrol is set to organise a night, and as there is 4-5 Patrols at 1st West, there is a
requirement that only 2 Patrols can organise an away from hall activity, bringing into the troop the aspect
of different and stranger programming. Some of the favourites are:

Bigger and Better
(where a Patrol starts off walking the streets, knocking on Residents doors locking for something that is bigger
and better than what they have got, and swapping it for it..)
Cooking Nights with a theme
Gladiators
(where the PL's are the Gladiators and the rest are the challengers and a bit of imagination for the challenges)
Fire
Mad Scientist
(www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiments/ good place to find a lot of good experiments)
Motorsport Madness
(Remote control night, basically)
Chocolate Making
Aviation
Knotting
First Aid
Construction

At 1st West we encourage each scout to attempt some badge work,
though support anyone interested in going all the way through to their Scout Medallion.

We have a policy here, we a Scout wanting to become a Assistant Patrol Leader must have their Pioneer Badge and
those whom want to become a Patrol Leader must have their Pioneer Badge and Cord and have attended at least 1
Stradbroke Cup. (This is a competition camp where the Scouts get to show off their camping skills along with
teamwork skills, which are very important skills to have to be a Patrol Leader.)
